Covid-19 has arguably had greater impact on Western societies than anything since WW 2. In terms of domestic impact in the United States (since the Civil War direct impact of wars on the American civilian population has been minimal) it's been the worst thing since the Great Depression. In fact if we're to believe the media and politicians (I like to throw in a little joke now and then) it's even worse in that this time vast numbers, up to half a million, will be directly killed. We already see reports of mass graves and secret burials. The economic impact could be as bad if not worse (as usual the economists are clueless). Death and destruction, with whole swathes of America looking like scenes from The Walking Dead. Little wonder then that it has crowded out almost everything else from the mainstream "news".
With that in mind take a look at this chart. Provisional Death Counts of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Pneumonia, or Influenza by week, United States. Week ending 2/1/2020 to 4/11/2020
Look in particular at the last column, Percent of expected deaths. This is the number of deaths from all causes for the relevant week in 2020 compared to the average number across the same week in 2017–2019.
To summarise:
There were 11,356 confirmed or presumed deaths from COVID-19.
There were 11,356 confirmed or presumed deaths from COVID-19.
There were 54.217 confirmed or presumed deaths from COVID-19, influenza and pneumonia.
There were 569,403 deaths all causes.
The deaths from all causes are equal to 90% of the expected number of deaths.
In other words for the disease profile in the time frame under review fewer Americans died in 2020 than died in the corresponding periods for the earlier two years. There have been fewer deaths this year! And this document was produced by the CDC!
How the hell do they hope to get away with the hysteria, the drastic restrictions on personal freedoms, and catastrophic economic and emotional damage that was based on a fundamentally wrong premise? Well I suppose nobody was held to account in any meaningful way for the Iraq War and 911. The public went back to sleep. There is a difference this time though in that, unlike with these two scandals, most people's lives have been dramatically impacted. Many will never get their lives back to the way they were.
As I've said time and again, a major denouement is imminent.
