Andy goes to charm school

Andy Murray is an immensely talented tennis player but in terms of charm...well he's been described as ‘duller than a weekend in Worthing’ - the notoriously boring British seaside town. However he's become an overnight hero with the chattering classes after what's been described as a 'courageous' (sic) intervention during a post-match interview. Here's the (so-called) Independent on it:  "Andy Murray wins praise for taking on 'casual sexism' in press conference following Wimbledon defeat.  Murray corrected a reporter who overlooked the success of female American players. A journalist began asking Murray a question, saying: “Sam is the first US player to reach a major semi-final since 2009”, only to be interrupted by the player. “Male player,” Murray reminded him.

Naturally enough this had the luvvies clucking their approval and the 'correction' (more accurately pedantic point-scoring as everyone knew what the reporter meant) was given banner headlines in the MSM. But while he might have burnished his feminist credentials he fell down badly on two other vital virtue-signalling arenas.

First he refused to acknowledge the achievement of American veterans players, including the venerable John McEnroe, in reaching Wimbledon Seniors semi-finals and indeed finals. On the charge of ageism therefore I find Andrew Murray Guilty.

Second he refused to acknowledge the magnificent achievement of America's Bryan brothers in winning the Wimbledon doubles tournaments on a number of occasions recently. Therefore on the charge of quantityism I find Andrew Murray Guilty.

Not looking so good now, is he?
